We spent a LOT of money today. Turns out setting up your ‘first place’ is not only expensive, but time-consuming and exhausting! To make things even more interesting, neither Dan or I know our way around this town (which is really not so much a town but a city), so we get lost going pretty much anywhere… even home. Fun, yes?
Anyway, I woke up before Dan (as always) and tried to get some work done without much success, because I was sooo hungry. So I dragged him out of bed and made him come with me to get food. I was hoping for a McDonald’s or even a coffee shop, but none were to be found! After many trials and tribulations we found ourselves in front of an IHOP, and I decided we needed to stop and eat (by this time it was noon, so we were both starving!)
Our first stop was Target, where we printed out what was left of our registry. Supposedly we were supposed to get 10% all registry items, but the girl at the register had no idea what we were talking about, so that didn’t work out so much… we still got a lot though, including a front mat, kitchen rugs and towels, and a dry-erase board weekly schedule that I’m already in love with. (Yes, I’m a bit of an organization geek…) Luckily we had gift cards that covered all $180 of our purchase! Next we went to the huge Walmart in American Canyon in pursuit of better deals, and ended up buying quite a bit more there too (shower stuff, and most importantly dishes. Even if we had to spend the $100 ourselves, it was well worth it, because the dishes are awesome!)
Finally we went to Safeway, because we had a $50 gift card, and that’s when things REALLY got crazy. I have literally never bought so much food before, and bear in mind I come from a family of 6. Our cart was full to overflowing! Thankfully we’ll never have to do that again, because we’ll never have NO food (unless we go out of the country for a few years, I guess, but in theory this’ll only happen once.) What’s funny is that our fridge is still pretty empty! We’ll probably even need MORE food later, when I start cooking more (which will happen when we actually find our pots, etc… I’m not about to boil water in Tupperware, lol.)
